Yankton – Evelyn Marie Peters, 86, went to her heavenly home Saturday, March 24 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital. Funeral service will be Wednesday, March 28 at 2:00 pm at Zion Lutheran Church in Delmont. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 27 from 5 to 7 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service at Zion Lutheran Church in Delmont. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.

Evelyn was given life by her creator and was born on March 26, 1931, to Mosie and Hazel (Ziegler) Brown in Delmont,SD . She received the gift of Holy Baptism and became a child of God on June 28, 1931. She started high school while living in Alamo, TX with her Grandmother, Lizzie (Billman) Ziegler, but returned to Delmont her junior year and graduated from Delmont High School in 1948. She attended one year of college at SDSU in Brookings, SD.

Evelyn and Kenneth Peters were united in marriage on August 20, 1949 at Zion Lutheran Church in Delmont. They resided in Sioux Falls, SD till 1952 when then moved to Delmont and owned and operated the K & D Grocery Store. In 1957 they moved to the Ziegler farm where they made their home until moving into Delmont in 2012, where they lived their last years together. This union was blessed with 3 sons and 2 daughters.

Evelyn worked as a business manager for the Delmont School system, deputy in the auditor's office for Douglas County, deputy for the treasurer's office, and later as the Douglas County treasurer. After retiring, Evelyn continued to work as a home health provider and at Dick's Market in Delmont. She was a member of Zion Lutheran church and the LWML.

Due to Alzheimer's Disease, Evelyn's whole world changed but the fond memories of her include her baking fresh pastries every Saturday, her garden and fresh canned foods, the many holiday dinners spent with family, attending church and actively participating, the love she had for her grandchildren, how much she loved Kenneth and her love for her children. Over the past few years, Evelyn enjoyed attending church, eating out, listening to Johnny Cash, visiting with her family, phone calls with David, laughing at stories of her past and her M&M's.

Grateful to have shared Evelyn's life are her children: Sam (Sandy) Peters of Delmont, Mike (Sheryl) Peters of Alcester, SD, David (Karen) Peters of Manteca, CA, Debra (Tom) Goehring of Delmont, and Lori Peters of Parkston, SD, 14 grandchildren18 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson and several nieces and nephews, Evelyn's sisters; Gloria (Curt)Buhler of Delmont, Judy (Bob) Rueb of Tyndall, and one brother, Lyle Brown of Tyndall, four sisters-in-laws and 2 brother-in-laws.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 grandchildren; Angela Peters and Taylor Peters, a daughter-in-law; Mary Peters and her sister, Helen.
