Corsica - Herman Rus, 90, died at Douglas County Memorial Hospital in Armour on Friday, March 17, 2017. Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Netherlands Reformed Congregation in Corsica with burial following in Graceland Cemetery in Corsica. Visitation will be Monday, March 20, 2017 from 6 - 8 PM at the Netherlands Reformed Gym in Corsica with a prayer service at 8:00 PM. Memorials would be preferred in lieu of flowers to be directed to Netherlands Reformed Christian School in Corsica. Herman Rus was born on December 22, 1926 to John and Katie (Zomer) Rus on the family farm north of Armour, SD. He attended country school in Douglas County. After his schooling, he helped with the family farm. He married Gertrude Wallenburg on February 24, 1949 in Rock Valley, IA. Herman worked as a farm hand and hauled milk. In 1951, he started farming near Armour until retiring in 1991. He moved to Corsica where he worked for Farm Aide Manufacturing in Corsica. He drove school bus for Netherlands Reformed Christian School for many years. Gertrude died on August 26, 2016. Herman was a member of Netherlands Reformed Congregation in Corsica where he served as Deacon for many years. He enjoyed reading and spending time with his grandchildren. He passed away on Friday, March 17, 2017 at Douglas County Memorial Hospital in Armour at the age of 90. Those left to cherish Herman's memory are his 3 children, Joanne (Darold) Den Boer of Corsica, SD, Gib (Donna Jean) Rus of Rock Valley, IA, and Kenny (Cindy) Rus of Armour, SD, brothers and sisters, Jacob (Frances) Rus, Lorn (Marilyn) Rus, and Hermina Van Veldhuizen all of Rock Valley, IA, Jennie Van Bemden of Grand Rapids, MI, and Cora Star of Marysville, WA, 7 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson, 2 sisters-in-law, Audrey Rus of Ireton, IA and Judy Rus of Grand Rapids, MI, brother-in-law, Cornie Rus of Sioux Center, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 brothers, Elmer and Leon, sister, Nellie Fluit, brothers-in-law, Alvin Star, Albert Spaans, Arie Van Veldhuizen, Isaac Van Bemden, and Tunis Fluit.
