Wilma Arlene Vanden Hoek, 84, went to her heavenly home Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Douglas County Memorial Hospital. Funeral service will be Friday, January 17 at 10:30 am, with visitation beginning at 9:30 am, at Grace Reformed Church in Corsica. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour. 

Wilma was born May 5, 1940 to Dick and Margaret (Bok) VanZuidam on the family farm near New Holland, SD. She was baptized into the Christian faith in New Holland at the Christian Reformed Church. She attended grade school in New Holland and later in life, obtained her GED through a home mail school. She was united in marriage to Wilfred “Bill” Vanden Hoek  on April 18, 1957  at her parents’ home near New Holland. The couple lived near Mitchell, SD, in White Lake, SD, New Holland, and Corsica. Wilma was a stay-at-home mom and later worked in Hoekman’s store, which she and Bill later owned and operated as Bill’s Market for 24 years. In retirement, they wintered in Mesa, AZ for 19 years. Wilma was a member of Grace Reformed Church where she taught Sunday school, was a member of the Harmony Workers and made quilts with the church ladies. She was also a member of the Priscilla Club and enjoyed sewing, mending, and embroidery.  

Grateful for having shared her life are her 3 children: Michael (Lori) Vanden Hoek of Stickney, SD and their 4 children Kristie (Thomas) Ogle of Stickney and their 6 children: John (Crystal) Vanden Hoek of Stickney and their 2 children, Kayla (Tanner) Haines of Worthing, SD and their 2 children, Kelsey (Eric) Schuldt of Alexandria, SD and their 3 children; Elaine (Lowell) DeVries of Corsica and their 4 children:  Chad (Shelby) DeVries of Sioux Falls, SD and their 3 children, Gary (Amy) DeVries of Aberdeen, SD and their 3 children, Nathan (Heidi) DeVries of Vermillion, SD and their 2 children, and Derek (special friend, Jaica Kenzy Adamson) DeVries of Pukwana, SD and their 2 children; and Glenda (Rick) Hongslo of Corsica, and their 3 children:  Tyler (Jessica) Juhnke of Mitchell and their 4 children, Taya (Gaven) Davis of Mitchell and their 3 children and Ryan (Kylee) Hongslo of Corsica and their 2 children; a brother, Henry (Darlene) VanZuidam of New Holland; 2 brothers-in-law, Lennis Laffey of Mitchell and Wesley DeHaai of Mitchell; a sister-in-law, Arlene Vanden Hoek of Plankinton, SD

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; infant daughter, Marlene Ann; sister Maria Laffey; nephew Bryan VanZuidam, sister-in-law Jeanine DeHaai, and a brother-in-law, Norman Vanden Hoek.
