Obituary of Larry J. Boddicker

Parkston - Larry J. Boddicker, age 78, of Parkston, SD passed away peacefully at his home on December 10, 2024. Memorial mass will be Monday, December 16 at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston.  Visitation will be Sunday, December 15 from 5 to 6:30 pm, with a prayer service at 6:30 pm, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston.

Larry was born October 29, 1946 in Parkston, SD to Leroy and Katherine (Boehmer) Boddicker. He attended school in Parkston through 9th grade when his father passed away. Larry then stayed home and worked on the family farm with his brother Robert for a year. Following his time on the farm, Larry spent time working on the construction of the interstate, Dimock lumber yard, and the chevy garage in Parkston. He worked for Scheetz Implement as a mechanic from 1966 until 1991 when he took a job at the Parkston School. He spent 18 years at the school before retiring in 2009.

Throughout his life, Larry enjoyed racing cars, shooting trap, woodworking, serving as a volunteer firefighter, making wine, hunting, camping, and most of all, chasing walleye on the Missouri River. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and loved to spend time outdoors with his family and friends.

Larry was united in marriage to Phyllis Bertram on October 25, 1969 at Sacred Heart Church in Parkston and was married for 55 years.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Phyllis of Parkston; a son, Rick (Angela) Boddicker of Pierre; 3 grandchildren, Michael, Campbell and Travis; a sister, Shirley TerMeer of Parkston; 2 brothers, Robert (Jolene) Boddicker of Parkston and Terry Boddicker of Parkston; a brother-in-law, Doyle (Mary) Bertram; 3 sisters-in-law, Elaine Pankoski, Doris (Alan) Schneider, Margaret Bertram; and many nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother in-law, Ernest and Viola Bertram; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
