It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to my uncle LeRoy. You have touched so many hearts in your lifetime as you have always been there for family, friends, neighbors, anyone needing a helping hand. I have such fond memories from my childhood spending time on the farm. This “city” girl got to experience farm life a few times a year from feeding the animals, riding on tractors, and playing in the fields. I remember the old farmhouse with the steep stairs up to the second floor, lots of amazing German food shared at the big table in the kitchen, Christmas eve services at church and getting the goodies bags after filled with peanuts, apples and candy. I remember how you always showed up for our family events from graduations, weddings, and even my kids sporting events when they played in SD. You loved life, loved being a farmer and every time I heard the poem by Paul Harvey – god made a farmer I always thought of you as you loved nothing more than working hard, watching your land grow and thrive even through the hard times. You will always be remembered by all as an honest, kind-hearted man who always put others first and I will always remember you for your sense of humor and your infectious laugh that brought joy to every situation. You made this world a better place and I thank you for being such an important part of mine and so many others lives. Due to health reasons, I am unable to attend the funeral and am sad that I cannot be there to say a final goodbye, but I am thankful that we were able to spend some time with you a few months ago (see picture below). God has welcomed you home with open arms and I know that everyone that has gone before you, including dad, was there waiting for you. Rest easy uncle LeRoy, you will be missed.
