Obituary of Annella "Nellie" Hohn

Parkston – Annella “Nellie” Hohn, 84, went to her heavenly home Friday, August 25 at Avera St. Benedict Hospital.  Funeral mass will be Tuesday, August 29 at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston.  Visitation will be Monday, August 28 from 5 to 7 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston.  Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.

Nellie was born November 15, 1938 to Edward and Hilda (Ehler) Weber. She grew up on the farm and attended Ss. Peter & Paul Parochial School in Dimock.  She was united in marriage to Gerald Hohn on October 20, 1959 at Dimock.  Nellie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society.  Nellie and Gerry raised their 5 children on the farm west of Dimock.  In 1986, they retired and moved to Parkston.  Nellie was always by her husband’s side, always helping out on the farm and together they enjoyed playing cards, hunting and fishing until Gerry’s death on January 17, 1993.  They moved into Parkston in 1986 where Nellie enjoyed helping her sister, Pat, refinish woodworking and painted many homes.  She also worked at Schilling’s Café and the Parkston Motel where she cleaned rooms.  Eventually, Nellie would leave her home and move into Heritage Square Apartments in Parkston where she enjoyed the many new friendships that she made along the way.  Nellie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.  She was always up for a gathering or road trip and never wanted to miss anything.  She loved her camping trips and always enjoyed eating the freshly caught walleye.  She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and never missed watching a game and over the years, acquired a nice collection of Twins memorabilia.

Grateful for having shared her life are her 5 children:  Linda (Bill) Gleason of Sebastopol, CA; Diane (Dennis) Horstman of Dimock; Roger Hohn of Parkston; Terry (Tammy) Hohn of Summerset; and Janelle (Steve) Reichert of Parkston; 18 grandchildren:  Brandon (Katelynn) McElwain, Danielle (Jesse) Staley, Shawna Kerstetter, Cody (Hali) Horstman, Seth (Tiffany) Horstman, Alex (Brooke) Horstman, Alexis (Brendan-friend) Horstman, Jana Hohn, Garret Hohn, Nate Hohn, Tasha (Jake) Kruse, Thea (Terry) Tennison, Taylor Hohn, Tucker (Haylee-fiance) Hohn, Jonathan (Nikki) Reichert, Tyler (Kaitlyn-fiance) Reichert, Tanner (Amanda-fiance) Reichert, Noah (Hannah-fiance) Reichert; 21 great-grandchildren:  Kolbi, Ava, Arianna, Easton, Ayden, Anthony, Ethan, Peyton, Asher, Berkley, Stirling, Briggs, Hudson, Rowan, Murphee, Lincoln, Jay, Madelynn, Huxley, Addilyn, and Cambrie; 9 siblings:  Monica (Frank) Horstman of Dimock; Tom (Jeanne) Weber of Dimock; Rosie Jarding of Alexandria; Tina (Eldie) Hohn of Dimock; Pat Mogck of Parkston; Leetee (Ron) Koch of Mitchell; Marge (Myron) Lang of Platte, Millie (Tim) Wermers of Dimock; and Ed (Jan) Weber of Mitchell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerry; 2 great-granddaughters, Paisley and Brinlee Tennison; and 4 siblings, Marie Kummer, Bert Thuringer, Agnes Weber and Ivan Weber.
