Glen Raymond Huggins was born on December 9, 1925, to Ben and Nellie Huggins. He was born on a farm north of Geddes. He attended country school until he moved to the Haney Farm east of Geddes where his son, Patrick Huggins, now owns. He continued his education through the 8th grade. During World War II, while Glen attended school; many of his classmates left to serve their country. Glen opted out of going into the service and was needed on the farm. It was from this moment that Glens desire in the love of farming became his life.
Glen married Viola Roth on May 17, 1948, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Through this marriage they had eight children: David, Diane, Lee, Lila, Tim, Glenda, Pat and Ben. Glen stayed on the Haney Farm and raised his family until retirement. He retired from farming in 1993 and then moved to the Ben F. Huggins residence in town and continued living in the home until his passing.
Glen was an active member in the St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Farmer’s Elevator Co-Op and the Geddes School Board. He loved going to auctions, cattle sales, playing pitch with his friends, purchasing horse equipment, making his own wagons, buggies and taking his family out on country rides. He took great pride in this! He always enjoyed watching a western movie at any time of the day. Glen always loved to eat! He loved talking about farming to his family and friends. He often spoke about the crops, cattle, farm equipment and the ways technology were changing the farming industry. Glen was a family man who believed family stayed together. He loved it when his family often came around to visit him throughout the year. He was blessed to have shared his life with his beloved wife, Viola, of nearly 50 years until she passed.
