Obituary of Leonard H. Werkmeister

Armour –Leonard H. Werkmeister, 95, went to his heavenly home Thursday, January 20 at the Platte Care Center. Funeral service will be Monday, January 24 at 10:30 am at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Armour. Visitation will be Sunday, January 23 from 6 to 8 pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Armour. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour.

Leonard was born June 4, 1926 to Adam and Lizzy (Meister) Werkmeister. He grew up on the family farm near Armour, SD and attended Chester #33 country school near there through the 8th grade. He began his lifelong career in farming working with his parents until eventually purchasing and operating his own farm. He was united in marriage to Sylvia Knodel on November 29, 1953 in Menno, SD. Leonard was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, was a past school board member and was a member of Modern Woodmen where he was a past board member and president.

Grateful for having shared his life are his 8 children: Lorna (Lyle) DeHaai of Chamberlain, SD; Brenda (Marvin) Reinfeld of Canistota, SD, L. Dean Werkmeister of Armour; Rodney (Charlene) Werkmeister of Mobridge, SD; Rick (Lorie) Werkmeister of Platte; Alvin Werkmeister of Brookings, SD; Dan Werkmeister of Platte; and Steven (Deb) Werkmeister of Mitchell, SD; 25 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sylvia; a grandson, Nathan; a daughter-in-law, Diana; 5 brothers; and 5 sisters.
