Obituary of Adames Punt

Armour – Adames Punt, 91, went to his heavenly home Monday, November 22 at Avantara Nursing Home in Armour.  Funeral service will be Saturday, November 27 at 10:00 am at Aurora Reformed Church in Aurora Center.  Visitation will be Friday, November 26 from 6 to 7 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service at Aurora Reformed Church in Aurora Center.  Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour.

Adames was born April 2, 1930 to Peter A. and Gertrude (Kroon) Punt on the family farm near Sioux Center, IA.  As a young boy, his family moved to a farm near Stickney, SD.  He attended country school near the farm through the 8th grade.  After graduating from school, he started his lifelong career of farming.  He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from October 31, 1951 until being honorably discharged on October 1, 1953.  Adames was united in marriage to Sarah Van Genderen on January 20, 1954 at her parent's home near Stickney.  In 1960, they purchased the farm where they continued to live until failing health forced them to move into an apartment in Armour, SD.  He was a lifetime member of Aurora Reformed Church where he was baptized, confirmed and served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.  He was also a lifetime member of the VFW. 

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Sarah of Armour; 4 children:  LeRoy (Susan) Punt of Mitchell, SD; Les Punt of Brookings, SD; Sally (Terry) Scott of Stickney; and LeAlan (Brenda) Punt of Armour; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Tolsma; 5 sisters-in-law:  Phyllis Punt, Philomena Punt, Margie Van Genderen, Norma (Roger) Feenstra, and Mary (Alvin) VanderWerff; and 4 brothers-in-law:  Delmar (Loretta) Van Genderen, Robert Van Genderen, Harlan (Judy) Van Genderen and Marvin (Delores) Van Genderen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Gertrude; a daughter-in-law, Valerie Punt; 2 sisters:  Harriet (Ernest) Kuyper and Donna (Don) Hattendorf; 4 brothers:  Vernon Punt, Dwaine (Gertie) Punt, Rich Punt and Gershom (Wilmetta) Punt; and 2 brothers-in-law, Gerben Tolsma and Lloyd Van Genderen.
