I met Helen for the first time at a family Christmas gathering. They had rented a hall for everyone, which I thought was odd but whatever. When we got there, there were so many people all laughing and talking. After gifts for the young kids, Helen was given a gift or two to open and everyone sat in anticipation as she opened them. The gifts were odd, like a microwave or something, but she had the biggest smile like it would be the most treasured gift in her house. Well, after some time and food and ganging up on someone in a game of chess with one of the young boys, it was over... but really it wasn't. Most, if not all, went to her house which was filled to, literally, standing room only where we watched her show us her new internet machine for doing email with family. Suddenly, the noise and laughing stopped as everyone turned and watched as she struggled to turn on the tv... the tv that everyone was in on... the tv that some one had snuck out of the party to swap out.
This story isn't about a microwave or a tv. It's not even about the huge family or the endless shenanigans that are at the start of so many stories. But the family and good times show what joy and love she brought to the world. She will be missed.
