Obituary of Grace Koch

Grace Koch, 97, went to her heavenly home Tuesday, April 30 at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. Funeral mass will be Monday, May 6 at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Stickney. Visitation will be Sunday, May 5 from 5 to 7 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Stickney. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Stickney.

Grace was born October 14, 1921 to Frank and Petronella (Zacek) Votruba in Prague, NE. She attended grade school in country schools near Platte, SD and later graduated from high school in Omaha, NE. On February 22, 1944, she married Alfred Gukeisen and lived on a farm northwest of Platte. Alfred passed away in 1947. She moved to Stickney, SD in 1948 to help care for Anna Koch. She was united in marriage to John Koch on May 25, 1950 and moved to a farm west of Stickney. Grace was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Altar Society, Catholic Daughters and Pleasant Lake Club. She enjoyed doing crafts and did a lot of crocheting. She loved her many farm cats. Grace entered Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell, SD in 2017.

Grateful for having shared her life are a daughter, Rosalie Mohnen of Menasha, WI; a son, Dennis (Darlene) Koch of Plankinton, SD; 4 grandchildren: Johnathan (Becca) Mohnen of Oshkosh, WI; Sara Mohnen of Neenah, WI; Nicole (Curt) Stange of Mitchell; and Scott (Amanda) Koch of Stickney; and 5 great-grandchildren: Mason Mohnen, Kaitlin, Marissa and Jordan Stange; and Chase Koch.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, a sister, a brother and a brother-in-law.
