Obituary of Harold W. Koehn
Parkston – Harold W. Koehn, 97, went to be with the Lord Thursday, March 7 at Avera Bormann Manor in Parkston. Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 12 at 10:30 am at Faith Lutheran Church in Parkston with visitation beginning at 9:30 am. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.
Harold was born April 23, 1921 to William (Bill) and Martha (Wenzel) Koehn in Parkston. He grew up and attended country school through the 8th grade before attending and graduating from Parkston High School. He attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion before moving to California where he met his future wife, Louise Marie Greene. The couple was united in marriage on March 1, 1942 at the Gretna Green Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, NV. Harold enlisted in the United State Army on October 24, 1942 and served his country during World War II until being honorably discharged on February 23, 1946. After his discharge, they moved back to Parkston where they owned and operated Koehn Grocery, Parkston Variety Store and Koehn Furniture from 1950 to 2013. Harold was a founding member of Faith Lutheran Church where he held various offices and was a member of the Faith Lutheran bowling league. He was a city councilman proud member and promoter of the Parkston community. He was co-chairman of the Parkston Centennial, was a member of the Parkston Commercial Club, Parkston Investment Club, Parkston Development Club and the American Legion and enjoyed family trips to California, camping and spending time on the boat. He was a loving husband of 68 years, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Grateful for having shared his life are his 2 sons: Bill (LaDonna) Koehn of Parkston and Jim (special friend, Jill) Koehn of Sioux Falls; 7 grandchildren: Troy (LeOnna) Koehn of Parkston; Travis (Sarah) Koehn of Gillette, WY; Trenton (Becky) Koehn of Armour; Trevor (special friend, Shannon) Koehn of Brandon; Dr. Trisha (Jeff) Morehouse of Brookings; Chris (Jillian) Koehn of Lake Havasue City, AZ; and Aaron Koehn of Sioux Falls; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Louise; 2 brothers, Norman and Emil; and a sister, Edna, in infancy.
