Obituary of Anita Winter

Parkston – Anita Winter, 88, went to her heavenly home near Parkston. Funeral service will be Friday, February 22 at 10:30 am, with visitation beginning at 9:00 am, at Salem Lutheran Church in Parkston. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.

Anita was born September 30, 1930 to Edward D. and Anna Winter on the family farm southwest of Parkston, SD. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at Eigenfeld Lutheran Church near Parkston. She attended country school through the eighth grade near the home place. Upon completing her schooling, she helped out on the farm and assisted relatives with child care and farm work. Anita later worked at Priebe and Sons Produce, candling eggs and as a waitress at the Corner Café. She worked as a nanny for Dr. and Mrs. Maynard Porter for several years and then began working for Dr. J.D. Hofer, a dentist in Parkston. For the next 40 years, Anita would work for Dr. Hofer as his "office girl". Years after Dr. Hofer's retirement, his former patients still referred to Anita as his "office girl". In her spare time, Anita enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and for 50 years mowing Eigenfeld Lutheran Cemetery. She was a member of Eigenfeld Lutheran Church until it closed and then became a member of Salem Lutheran Church where she was active in the choir and served on the centennial committee. She was instrumental in gathering confirmation pictures, old and new, to be displayed in the basement of Salem Lutheran Church. Anita spent the last several years living at her sister Marcella's farm with the assistance of her nieces, Lois and Denise Werning and her nephew, David Werning.

Grateful for having shared her life are her nieces and nephews: Lois Werning, Denise Werning, David Werning, Brian Winter, Mark Winter, Bonnie Struble, Keith Winter and Kevin Winter and 2 brothers-in-law, Elmer Werning and Ervin Winter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters, Marcella Werning, Geneva Winter, and Maxine Winter in infancy; and a brother, Harold Winter in infancy.
