Lake Andes - Delores Marie Payer, 77, died on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Lake Andes Healthcare Center in Lake Andes. Funeral service will be Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Lake Andes with burial following in St. Mark's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, February 3, 2017 from 5 - 7 PM at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Lake Andes with a wake service at 7:00 PM. Delores Marie (Whiteley) Payer, 77, of Lake Andes died on January 31, 2017 at the Lake Andes Health Care Center. Delores was born on June 1, 1939 to Arthur and Eleanor (Deurmier) Whiteley at home in rural Avon. She graduated class valedictorian in 1957 from Avon High School. Delores attended Southern Teachers College in Springfield, SD and taught middle school at Lake Andes for three years. Delores was united in marriage to Eugene Peter Payer on April 23,1962 at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Lake Andes. To this union, five children were born. Delores worked along side her husband, farming, raising animals and watching her children grow. Delores was particularly proud of her flower gardens and later in life, enjoyed compiling the family history for both sides for her children. Delores loved attending events and athletic contests that her children and grand-children participated in and she loved following the Andes Central Eagles. Normally very reserved, Delores took great joy in the activities of her grandchildren and she would let you know how proud she was of them! A devout Catholic, Delores was an active member of St. Mark's Church and a member of the Altar Society. Thankful for sharing her life are her husband of 54 years, Eugene Payer, children John Payer (Marge) of Chamberlain, Lisa Kraning (Patrick) of Lake Norden, Mary Payer of Flandreau, Mark Payer (Jodi) of Yankton, and Jean Jordan (Brian) of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl; 12 grandchildren: Christopher Payer, Marshal (Lydia) Payer, Jill Payer, Alyssa Kraning, Zachary Kraning, Nathan Snyder, Cody Snyder, Jacob Payer, Jordan Payer, Justin Payer, Cassandra Jordan, and Megan Jordan. Delores is also survived by her brother, Robert Whiteley of Mitchell, sister-in-law Shirley Payer of Lake Andes, brother-in-law Dan (Caroline) Kocer of Wagner., along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her her parents and Eugene's parents, sister-in-law Henrietta Nelson, Margene Weber, and Darlene Kocer, brother-in-law Fyle Nelson, Leo Payer, and Harlen Weber.
