Lake Andes - Donald Nelson, 73, died at Lake Andes Healthcare Center in Lake Andes on Friday, February 3, 2017. Funeral service will be at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Lake Andes at 2:30 PM Tuesday, February 7, 2017 with burial following in Lakeview Cemetery in Lake Andes. Visitation will be at Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Lake Andes on Monday, February 6, 2017 from 5 - 6:30 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM. Donald Duane Nelson was born on January 7, 1944 to Nels P. and Maxine L. (O'Conner) Nelson in Wagner, SD. He attended grade school at White Swan Country School #6, then graduated from Lake Andes High School in 1962. He attended a year of college at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. He came home to help his parents with the family farm near Lake Andes. He married Jodean Steele and to this union, a daughter was born, Deana Nelson. He loved his farming and raising livestock on the farm. Most of all, he had a fondness for horses. Don will be remembered for his caring for his parents and his sense of humor. He entered Lake Andes Healthcare Center in January of 2015, where he died on Friday, February 3, 2017 at the age of 73. He is survived by his daughter, Deana Nelson, brother, Kenneth, and sisters, Barbara, Jean, and Judy, and special friend, Mary Little. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nels and Maxine.
