Obituary of John Wayne Van Genderen

   Mitchell - John Wayne Van Genderen, 80, died at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell on Sunday, August 12, 2018. Funeral service will be Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 2:30 PM at Aurora Reformed Church in Aurora Center, SD with burial following in Aurora Center Cemetery. 

   John Wayne Van Genderen was born on January 20, 1938 to Tony and Margaret (Bruinsma) Van Genderen near Stickney, SD. He attended rural school through the eighth grade. At age 12 he went to live with Pete and Ann Van Genderen. He married Sharon Buhmann and to their union two children were born, Holly and Curt. Later, they divorced and John moved to Mitchell where he worked for Coke-Cola until retirement. He faithfully attended First Reformed Church in Mitchell. After retirement, he lived in many retirement homes. Due to illness, he moved to Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell where he died on Sunday, August 12, 2018.

   He is survived by his son, Curt of Delaware, sister, Rhodora of Syracuse, NE, nieces, nephews, and many cousins and friends.

   He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, and infant brother, John.
