Obituary of Dorothy Jean Heruth

Dorothy Jean Heruth, 82, of Stickney passed away Monday, July 16 at her home in Stickney. A private committal service will be held and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 4 at 2:00 pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stickney.

Full of energy and laughter, Dorothy was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor. Dorothy was born August 1, 1935 in Minneapolis, MN to Lloyd and Elda Cliplef. She married Bernard George Heruth Jr. in 1956. In 1965, the couple moved from Minneapolis to Murdock, MN to bigin their partnership as Pastor and Pastor's Wife. Over the next 30 years, they served Lutheran parishes in Murdock; Salem, SD; and Scotland, SD.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Rev. Bernard Heruth Jr. of Stickney; 3 children: Jeanne (Calvin) Olivier of Stickney; Beverly (Jim) Velarde of Lander, WY; and Daniel (Rika) Heruth of Liberty, MO; 8 grandchildren: Ana, John (Courtni), Joseph, Jolene, Veronica, Rachel, Michele (Justin), and Hans; 5 great-grandchildren: Miranda, Cody, Savannah, Justus and Jayci Rae; and a great-great-granddaughter, Cecilia.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers, Robert, Gerald and John.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org). Dorothy’s family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff of Mitchell Avera@Home and Mitchell Home Instead for the care provided and kindness shown to our loved one.
