Obituary of Brenda Ranaee Safar

Stickney – Brenda Ranaee Safar, 66, went to her heavenly home Saturday, June 16 at the Dougherty Hospice House surrounded by her family in Sioux Falls. Funeral service will be Thursday, June 21 at 10:30 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stickney. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 20 from 5 to 7 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stickney. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Stickney.

Brenda was born October 15, 1951 to Walter and Elnora (Wittenhagen) Olawsky in Mitchell, SD. She attended and graduated from Mitchell High School. She worked in Mitchell until being united in marriage to Roger Safar on August 29, 1975 in Mitchell. They moved to a farm near Stickney, SD. In addition to helping on the farm, Brenda worked various jobs in Stickney. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she attended Bible Study, Jayceettes, Aurora County Cancer Society and organized the first community cancer walk. She enjoyed cooking, playing pinochle, bowling and attending her grandchildren’s events. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing softball.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Roger of Stickney; 3 daughters: Kristine (Tracy) Van Gorp of Plankinton, SD; Melynda (Heath) Jauert of Luverne, MN; and Traci (Patrick) Munneke of Sioux Falls, SD; 6 grandchildren: Mason Jensen, Maryssa Van Gorp, Hayden Safar, Walker Van Gorp, Khloe Munneke, and Paysen Munneke; and a nephew, Jason Howard of Lucedale, MS.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Audrey.
